The Period That The Birthplace Was Trapped

Description

This image was taken at my home in Granby, Massachusetts. I was playing basketball by myself on my street in the early afternoon. It represents Springfield College, the birthplace of basketball, being trapped by an external force. The COVID-19 pandemic has trapped the world in their homes, much like the basketball has been trapped in the net.

Coverage

I chose this photo because there is no better object to represent Springfield College than a basketball. When I shot the basketball into the net and it got stuck, it was very symbolic about how the Springfield College community, and the world, feels during this time. The ball was trapped. It could not go in the direction that it wanted to. After staring at the ball, laughing about how something like this would happen to me, and taking a picture, I lowered the hoop and hit the basketball out in the direction that it came in. This was not represented in the picture, but is arguably the most important part. I was able to get the ball out of the net, and I could then stretch the net to prevent it from getting stuck ever again. Although at this moment in time we are stuck in a net, it is important to remember that there is always a way out. It may not be the traditional way and it may cause us to stall for a moment, but much like the basketball in this picture, we will find a way.
