Colleges Against COVID-19
Description

Management students at Providence College created a two-minute video — featuring their classmates and friends from colleges across the country — to encourage young adults to take seriously warnings about the coronavirus. This video was posted on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube.

Everyone’s life has drastically changed since the world entered a pandemic from COVID-19. The things every college student took for granted like athletics, graduation, in person classes, and dinner in dining hall was suddenly all taken away from us. This video is a message from college students to college students expressing the importance of practicing social distancing. Practicing social distancing is something that can save a person who is more susceptible to disease than you are. We are staying home to save the lives of our parents and grandparents. This time is something no one has ever experiences before and it is hard for young adults to accept since they feel they are wasting away their college time. I think it is important to preserve this video because it expresses the unity of college students everyone coming together during this pandemic. I would want someone to notice the transition from the beginning of this video of the college boy saying nothing is going to stop him from partying to the rest of the video of college kids expressing the importance of staying home to help flatten the curve of COVID-19 deaths.

She is on the front lines during this pandemic as she is a Recovery Room Team Leader at Beverly Hospital. This photo displays the courage and bravery of health care workers. Sylvia lives the College's mission of providing leadership and service to others and represents everything great about Springfield. We are very fortunate to have Hero's like her looking out for us every day. Now more than ever we must come together as a community as we battle to put an end to Covid-19.

I chose this social media post because it shows how this crisis has impacted every aspect of life, not just for the Springfield College student, but the population in general. It is important to preserve this piece as it mentions social, political, and economic changes, and serves as an encouraging reminder to be grateful and support one another. So much is happening in the world right now with news and information being released everyday, but I found this to be a good quick summary of everything happening at the point in time. It shows the severity of the crisis in a very straightforward way that also gets across the panic and fear that people are living through. This post resonated with me because it suggests that although everyday life has changed so much, it is a struggle everyone can relate to, and it is important to stay connected as a community and check in on each other to bring about positive change in the world. This is the first time most college students are experiencing a global crisis in their lifetime. Despite that, this post shows the leadership and reflection that Springfield College students can provide relating to the bigger picture through a sense of community and connection on social media.

I chose this photo because it perfectly captivates an empty Springfield College campus. This image shows what it is like during this pandemic. Everybody is social distancing and there are no more students left on campus after Springfield College transitioned to online classes. What normally would be pictured with many students enjoying a beautiful sunny day, it is a photo capturing the quiet, solitude of Lake Massasoit with no students present. It captures the sadness of everybody that had left campus but also the strength as everyone is pushing through during these tough times. I am sure many are reminiscing their last few months on campus but we are always connected through our pride and love for Springfield College. This image keeps us all connected during this pandemic.

The reason I picked this video is it shows that in tough times when we can not be together we can still be connected. It also shows ways the campus has adapted for it's athletes with creating challenges to bring the feel of being home at Springfield. It also shows the dedication that Springfield athletes have to still keep training even when the circumstances in the world are not great. Something as simple as a burpee challenge can make all the difference. I want people to be able to see this and think that Springfield is one big family and even when we are not together we still do things to show that we care.

I chose this post because it persuades the Springfield College community to take protective measures and implementations. James Naismith is a predecessor we all look up upon, so his contribution and caution on this pandemic issue is taken seriously. This post will inform later viewers that all Springfield College affiliates were directly affected and took part in healthy practices as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. It is important to remember how important it is for us all to play our part to hinder the spread of the disease, and that doing something as simple as wearing a do-it-yourself mask can make a big difference.
