A huge part of being a student at Springfield College for me is being a RA. Having to go to school from home has eliminated this important part of my college experience, as I am sure it has for many others. I find myself reaching out to my residents often and making jokes with my family that they can get written up for having alcohol. Having the final RA awards ceremony be online is not ideal, but it at least it's something rather than it just being cancelled like most things right now. I also appreciate the line that refers to being all "Zoomed-out" because this is a very accurate representation of what it is like to be a Springfield College student right now.

I choose to share this document because, over the course of staying at home during the COVID-19 outbreak, the Women's Soccer Strength and Conditioning coach challenged my team to compete against each other while training on our own. I thought that this was a great way to stay in touch with each other and push each other to our goals. This challenge was fun as you didn't know what challenge you would be facing until our strength coach sent it out to us of the morning of the challenge.

I chose this set of images in order to show one of the many different ways students were affected by the COVID-19 crisis. It displays just how quickly the status of the virus was changing and becoming more of a threat to the health and safety of students. It also shows how the virus impacted students regardless of whether or not they were personally inflicted by the health crisis. The images capture the immense change that the global virus brought to the Springfield College Community.

Springfield College Mail - [tradugstudents-l] Important Message from President Cooper.pdf
This is the pivotal email that informs students, staff, and employees, of the final decision to move classes online. While there was some talk of the classes moving online, this email confirmed this decision and shifted the method of teaching to an online format. It not only moves the semester online but also makes a point to answer student, staff, and faculty questions regarding the transition. The email also alludes to the sentiment of the student body at this point, particularly the students who where graduating. Ultimately, this email has a lot of useful information about the beginning of the transition to online classes and provides a snapshot of students' sentiments at the time of the shift.
Important Message From President Cooper

Springfield College Mail - [tradugstudents-l] Important Message from President Cooper.pdf
This email was chosen because it holds importance to understanding the uncertainty that was present at this time. The uncertainty in this email truly shows that this is an unprecedented scenario that was never anticipated.

As a senior at Springfield College during the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, this email was very important to receive. Something that the class of 2020 had been looking forward to for the past four years had suddenly and unexpectedly been taken away from us. Hope in looking forward to the rescheduled Commencement dates, and relief in knowing that our dedication and strenuous work we put in did not go unrecognized.

When this incident happened it was something I had never had experienced before. Like I said in the account it felt like something from a movie. I think it's a great account of the day that we found out we had to leave for spring break. It shows how quickly things turned negative. How fast our lives changed that day, some more than others. This excerpt will help us understand the experiences of students from far out of state that were affected by this. Tyler was still in the U.S. I couldn't imagine what it was like for the people out of the U.S. I think this write up is important because it shows how real this event is. Sometimes we feel a little out of touch when things aren't directly affecting us, but when Tyler went through this it made everything a little more real for me and I wanted to capture that. I want people to notice how uncertain we all were. I know I used that word a lot here but that's the only way I can explain everyone's reaction. It's like nobody knew what was going on.

I chose this item to show how Springfield College, along with other colleges all around the U.S., required their students to move out of their dorms early due to the COVID-19 outbreak. This image shows the schedule for which students could go back to campus and get all their belongings from their rooms before the campus was shut down. This experience was very different and weird for students, as we are used to being at school until the beginning of May, not the middle of March. It was the start of the transition to the concept of online classes, which was a major change for most students as not a lot of people have used that style of learning for an entire half of a semester. An event like this has never happened before, so it was a weird experience for students to have to return home from school two months early.

I chose to write about the life of a student going through the changes at Springfield College. move out email-converted.pdf
When students left campus for spring break, there was much uncertainty about whether or not they would be able to come back to campus after break or if the rest of the semester would be conducted online. As such, many chose to leave most or all of their stuff in their dorms rooms if students were to come back. After the announcement that students would not return, Residence Life sent an email detailing a staggered move out process for students to come and retrieve the rest of their items in the dorms. It was a staggered process based off last name in order to maintain social distancing.

From this resource you can see how much the COVID-19 Pandemic had an effect on the Springfield College seniors. As a senior it was depressing to see senior week, the rest of their school year, and a time to take year book photos just disappear in front of my eyes. It even pushed back my graduation to August as of right now and can even be pushed back even more if the Coronavirus doesn't clear up by then. No senior was expecting this to happen at the beginning of the school year. We were looking forward to our last Sti-yu-ka, senior formal, taking graduation pictures on the green during senior week, and most importantly going to pick up our caps and gowns as a group, and all of this was taken away very abruptly creating a very heart-breaking end to senior year.

Each year, Springfield College looks forward to hosting a number of on-campus events, including Accepted Student Open House. Accepted Student Open House provides students a glimpse into the undergraduate experience that awaits them, while also providing students' families a chance to explore the campus. It is one of the most important and exciting events held by the college. However, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Accepted Student Open House is just one of the many events that have forcibly been moved on-line. Springfield College is taking all measures, including providing accepted students with a checklist, to facilitate the transition of Accepted Students Open House to an on-line format.

On April 20th, 2020, my college writing class received an email from our professor. When I received this email, I had just woken up and did what I usually do every morning which is scroll through Instagram and look at all the emails I have gotten. I usually tend to brush emails from professors off until the afternoon, when I decide not to be lazy and do some work. For some reason this morning felt different and something told me I had to read my email. At the bottom of this email, my English professor wrote that she understood how overwhelming these times can be. she added that she was proud of all of us and the work that we are accomplishing. I chose this email because it shows that through this horrible time, people in the Springfield College community will always care even if they are struggling to and that's why Springfield is a true family and will always help others accomplish hard things in a time of need. To the future researchers and people out there, this will help them understand how it is to work together during a hard time from a far. it will teach them how to work together even if we are each miles away, because in todays generation no matter what, the phone and WIFI always works.

Later on in the email, each option is explained into further detail and deadlines are given for students who choose to use any of these accommodations.

I chose this email because it represents the lengths that the college has had to go to in order to accommodate for their students during this pandemic. Not only have we had to transition to online learning, but the school has also had to make changes to the academic policy so that students can succeed online. This requires a lot of time in effort from the Office of Academic Affairs. The fact that they are willing to make these changes for the greater good of the students displays a great amount of support from the Springfield College community. They have clearly acknowledged that this change is hard on everyone, especially students, and they are willing to help in any way that they can. This relieves a lot of the stress that students are experiencing during this time and gives them hope that they can still perform well. It makes me proud to be a part of a school that is so accommodating in hard times like these.

These were four emails that I received that accurately convey the tone by which Springfield College approached the Coronavirus pandemic during its early stages. It started off with a general warning, perhaps not even a warning, but an informative email about a situation unfolding in the world. Fast forward a little over a month later, and the college starts having to make some big decisions that directly impact its students. A month later, education is fully online. These emails, and the time frame they convey, indicate the rapid nature by which the college was forced to react to the COVID-19 pandemic. I would hope that people looking at this document in the future would recognize the tone of the emails, and the way that our President handled the situation. She has been absolutely great throughout this whole crisis, and though she is having to deal with the weight of some unbelievably heavy decisions for the greater good of the community, she has done it with grace and with comforting words for the students that are being impacted the most. President Cooper's heart aches for the students, and that shows not only through her words, but her actions as well.
