<dcterms:coverage><![CDATA[These were four emails that I received that accurately convey the tone by which Springfield College approached the Coronavirus pandemic during its early stages. It started off with a general warning, perhaps not even a warning, but an informative email about a situation unfolding in the world. Fast forward a little over a month later, and the college starts having to make some big decisions that directly impact its students. A month later, education is fully online. These emails, and the time frame they convey, indicate the rapid nature by which the college was forced to react to the COVID-19 pandemic. I would hope that people looking at this document in the future would recognize the tone of the emails, and the way that our President handled the situation. She has been absolutely great throughout this whole crisis, and though she is having to deal with the weight of some unbelievably heavy decisions for the greater good of the community, she has done it with grace and with comforting words for the students that are being impacted the most. President Cooper's heart aches for the students, and that shows not only through her words, but her actions as well. ]]></dcterms:coverage>

This experience was very different and weird for students, as we are used to being at school until the beginning of May, not the middle of March. <dcterms:coverage><![CDATA[I chose to upload this photo because it gives insight to the precautions the school was suggesting before it shut down for the semester. The flyer depicts how to properly wash one's hands with soap and water since one of the main ways to protect one's self from the coronavirus is to practice proper hand hygiene. The school posted this flyer to properly show students how to protect themselves, and I think future historians can use this in the future to see what precautions the school was taking and advertising before the college closed for the semester. ]]></dcterms:coverage>

Because of the urge to quarantine, people would go months without seeing friends and others not living in the same space. During this difficult time, we must remember to find ways to stay connected, such as video chatting and text messaging. The poem/song attempts to capture those feelings of uncertainty and longing for interaction during this time.]]></dcterms:description>

<dcterms:coverage><![CDATA[The image I chose to portray how covid affected education is an image from my high school graduation. My school decided to do a drive-in style graduation, in a big parking lot by the water. We couldn’t have had a better night for it. Doing the ceremony outside gave everyone the chance to walk across stage and accept their diploma, all the while being socially distant. As president of my class, I had the opportunity to give a speech to my fellow classmates. As shown in the photo, I was basically speaking to a bunch of cars. It was very strange. I was unable to see the faces of my peers, but it was special nonetheless. It gave me the chance to say goodbye to everyone before we went our separate ways; something I was unable to do when we left on a random Friday. I feel like this graduation ceremony embodies the way my school handled Covid. It was no where near perfect, but they tried their best to make it as fun as possible. There was no way that the year could be “normal”. There were definitely many fails in their attempts to make it the best, but they still tried their hardest and that is all that matters in my opinion. My last semester of high school was definitely a let down, but it taught me to not take things for granted. Even if it’s just waking up at six in the morning to go to a long day of school. You will never realize what you miss until it’s gone.]]></dcterms:coverage>

This will help future researchers realizes the sense of urgency our nation and world were in for personal protective equipment to prevent the virus from spreading. People had to make homemade masks from scrap fabric because it was the only options due to such a shortage of equipment. It will help future researchers understand the lives of everyone who wanted to protect themselves and others from the virus. This item is important to preserve because it might represent what our future may look like going forward as a result of COVID-19, mask may be a part of our everyday attire. This specific item was made for my local fire department and their families by a local citizen, 75 masks were made in total so far. ]]></dcterms:coverage>
